Hello 2026!

Happy New Year signage

Whoops, I didn’t post anything since February of last year?! I’m sorry. I can tell you I have A LOT of post drafts that I have yet to publish. I figured since I’m logged in to my platform I may as well check in and say hi and welcome to a new year. So hello! Happy New Year!

My family has things on the calendar for this month already so we’re going full speed come Monday morning. The last two weeks were a good break from rehearsals, lessons, and concerts though. Adam’s band is playing at 33 Golden St in New London January 24th. Come on down!

I’m excited, this week we start rehearsing a new piece for my April concerts. Have you ever sung The Dream of Gerontius by Edward Elgar? My score is 177 pages long and most YouTube videos are an hour and a half long, so this is a beast of a piece if you ask me. Very intimidating. I’ve been learning notes as much as possible before the first rehearsal. This doesn’t seem like the kind of piece I can get by with sight-reading.

I intend to return to taking classes at the community college this year so there’s going to be a lot of reading this season, but I am also trying to make sure I read books in my own time. I found the Agatha Christie 2026 reading list of themed titles per month, so I’m eager to dig further into reading more of the author’s works. So far I’ve watched a lot of the old Poirot tv episodes that I used to love on A&E, and this month’s reading is a Miss Marple title. I’ve never read any Miss Marple! I really do love Agatha Christie. Loved her influence in the Knives Out films. I’m already deep into The Body in the Library.

I started compiling a goals list for this year. The last couple years I didn’t write a list of goals or intentions and I feel like not having something to revisit and help me focus my energy made me feel untethered and kind of wild. There was room for spontanaeity, but I felt more directionless than anything and didn’t entirely like it.

The short list is- I would like to keep learning, move more, make more memories with people I care about, continue to support my small business because it’s fun, make our house a home because i’ve unpacked the moving boxes from 1.5 years ago, but half of the rooms in the house are still just full of unorganized stuff. That’s good enough. I want to take classes, take good care of my body, take care of my emotional and mental well-being, feel happier living in my home, and have a bit of fun.

One of my hobbies is that I like to view art. Whenever I visit a new location one of the things on my “to see and do” list is to go find art. So if you’re ever wondering if I want to see this art gallery or museum, i’ll say yes! What I also love is that the internet can bring the museum to me. I’ve never been to The Frick Collection and would love to someday, but this video produced by Vogue Magazine brought me on a tour of some of the collection there. It was a fascinating watch- Objects of Affection: Aimee Ng, Chief Curator of the Frick, on the Museum’s Greatest Treasures

I just discovered this YouTube channel today called Don’t Be A Lemon. I love that lady. She provides accurate and realistic comment on American consumerism and the power of social media influencing, she breaks down why we spend the money we spend, and great commentary on de-influencing our lives if we’re in the weeds of shopping addictions or making nonsensical financial decisions in this economy. I’d be surprised if she isn’t a professor at a local college because I would enjoy attending her lectures as some one who was a Psychology major and currently a Business student. Gawd I might accidentally binge her whole channel by the end of the day.

Speaking of which, two other channels I looooove right now are CC Suarez and Viral Virtue with Jordan & McKay. I just love all of their commentary on influencers and Mormons.

I’m looking for a reliable Chicken Salad recipe. AllRecipes is such an old website, it was the first place I looked for online recipes before food blogs boomed so i’m worried some of the recipes might not be great, but I think this 5.0-rated recipe sounds like I would like it. I like a mixture that includes Dijon mustard. If you have a great chicken salad recipe, please send it to me! I’ll try it.

Do I talk about the most boring crap? If not, thanks for sticking around. Let’s get through 2026 together. We can do it. Love you!
